We are sailors, scientists, artists, activists and educators, and we love the ocean so much that we will happily wear layers of rain gear for the sake of whales.

THe Crew

kevin

Founder

A lifelong resident of the Pacific Northwest, Captain Kevin believes strongly in a sailboat’s ability to capture the imagination and engage with the environment. After earning his captain's license and a degree in evolutionary biology, Kevin headed out to sea. Since that day he has crossed two oceans and sailed a variety of boats on five of the seven seas. Kevin is also the founder of Deep Green Wilderness, a sailing and marine science organization, serves on the board of directors for SeaDoc Society, and has been known to entertain people with his guitar or tales of secret surf spots from his travels in Central America.

Elizabeth

Conservation and Outreach Coordinator

Elizabeth "Erob" Robinson is coming onboard as Conservation and Outreach Coordinator. Erob joined the DGW crew in 2017, where she worked two seasons as educator and found her true passion in life, sailing on Orion. With a crazy obsession with whales and an eye for spotting wildlife, she joined Kevin and crew on both the voyages in search of the elusive North Pacific right whale. Erob has just completed her masters degree in Global Wildlife Health and Conservation, where her dissertation focused on challenges inherent in global cetacean conservation efforts. Passionate about endangered species recovery and whale conservation, we are happy to have Erob onboard once again!

Kate

Media Coordinator

Kate’s high school art teacher once said to her, “you’re an artist stuck inside a scientist’s body.” She’s since taken that to heart and combines art and science together as much as she can. She holds a masters degree in Earth and Climate Science, produces a nature podcast called Go Forth and Science, and creates comics about sea and land creatures in her spare time.
